Asterisk features

Asterisk runs on a variety of different operating systems including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, OpenBSD and Sun Solaris. Asterisk supports all basic protocols Voice over IP (IAXTM Inter-Asterisk Exchange, H.323, SIPSession Initiation Protocol, MGCP Media Gateway Control Protocol, SCCP Cisco® Skinny®), as well as it may go with almost any of standard telephony VoIP-equipment. An undoubted advantage of Asterisk is the possibility of easy integration with telephony FXO/FXS or connection through E1/ИКМ-30. And all this is available only by operating an extensible set of administrative modules and rather inexpensive hardware.

Asterisk permits to create a highly intellectual Business Telephone System with such functions as:

  • Support of Voice over IP, E1/ИКМ-30, FXO/FXS, TDM over Ethernet;
  • Conjunction of remote offices into a single network, and the Internet connection is enough for it. The telephone companies’ services are not required.
  • Voice mail support;
  • Soft dial plan support;
  • Integration with IP-telephony network for international calls;
  • Interaction with channels of traditional telephony services;
  • Forwarding due to dial plan.
